Falling for Florals

Full Disclosure: I was sooo ready for summer to be ovah!!! I've been looking forward to:

-Crisp Air-
-Geeky Sweaters-
-and Pumpkin everything-

for months now, so it couldn't have come sooner. And one of the best things about September is transitional dressing to the max. I kept up with the times with weather-appropriate, but cheery-nonetheless-brights and florals:

NYFW SS13 Part Deux - iPhone Diary

Ok, so I know the rest of the Fashion World has moved on to runways at several different cities and continents by now, but, better fashionably late than never, oui? If you are following Scorpion Disco on Facebook, you may have seen most of these photos. So like...feel free to follow me!

NYFW in Instagram, Day 1 and FNO

Step 1: Check into the Hudson:

Step 2: Get Dressed (Step 2a: Pause for pictures)

Step 3: Take a cab 3 blocks to the Lincoln Center. Attend shows, take shoddy cell-phone photos and attempt to ameliorate the sitch by getting creative.

Step 4: Get food. You never know when you will have another chance to eat, and not everyone can survive on Fiber1 bars (given out like candy at the Lincoln Center by women in yellow plastic dresses, obvi)

Step 5: Attend parties for FNO, preferably thrown by Assouline at The Plaza Hotel:

Stay tuned for Day 2!

NYFW SS13 Stalker Guide

This week is the start of the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 events, shows, presentations, theatrics and shenanigans. I've got some really exciting plans, including some great shows, Fashion's Night Out traditions, after parties and BFF slumber parties. Here's what I'll be up to next week:

Thursday, I'll be taking the train in to NYC from Boston (hopefully it will look like the MJ for LV train from the Louis Vuitton AW12 Steamer Train Inspired collection and ad campaign...here's to hoping!) and frantically trying to catch a cab up to the Hudson Hotel
to change and get ready for Tadashi Shoji's SS13 runway. It's always one of those shows where the beautiful colors, ethereal fabrics, and goddess-worthy silhouettes make me pray that each look isn't the last. It really makes me wish fashion shows aren't just a quick 10 minutes!
I can't imagine a better way to start NYFW than on the highest of high notes. Tadashi Shoji (or, Tadashi Shoji for short) will always have a special place in my heart because I wore his dress at both of my international weddings! What I wouldn't give for a hug from him! Heck, I'd marry him, too, if my husband wouldn't mind a resident fashion designer in the mix!
Me in Tadashi at our weddings stateside and abroad

Then, off to Costello Tagliapietra for their show. If having awesome burly beards and denim overalls
isn't enough to assure you that they make deliciously drapey women's clothes adored by the likes of feminine fashion notables such as Padma Lakshmi and Corrine Bailey Rae, then I don't know what is.

Off to the Hudson to regroup for a bit before the craziness of FNO! We'll head to Saks to take in six floors of fashion and casual celeb sitings. Last year, I was within yards of Tilda Swinton
AND Anna Wintour while innocently perusing Pringle of Scotland's retrospective collection in Women's Sportswear, and rubbed elbows with Elettra Weidermann while spritzing on Lancome Perfume.
It's an alternate universe! Then, we'll head up to Missoni for some drinks and to soak in the Italian Fashion House's (somehow soothing) eccentric zigzag sensibilities.

The Aftermath of FNO should go something like this:

The start of the weekend brings an after party with my dear friend L. from Saks, celebrating indie-label Yuna Yang, Hopefully I'll be similarly passed out after a long day of shows and a long night of partying - civilly, of course!
followed by sleeping in, brunch, and heading back to the Lincoln Center for more shows until I can't take it anymore.

Sunday, I get to see Michael Bastian's SS13 collection at Milk Studios.

My interview with him for Stuff Magazine is on stands now, and after hearing him describe his design philosophy (think: perfectly imperfect wearable luxury you can go grocery shopping in) and the emotional roller coaster of Fashion Week, not to mention his comparison of putting on a runway show to missing your own wedding, this is a major dream come true!

Sunday night can't come soon enough. I'll be tagging along with my friend and colleague Sophie Hughes, a jewelry designer and maker:
who is providing all the jewelry for Emerson's SS13 runway. The show will be produced by Kelly and Emily of People's Revolution, and last season in attendance was one Ms. Leigh Lezark, effortlessly cool coolgirl and who also happens to be Emerson's FW12 lookbook model.
Sophie's jewelry, which mixes classic sophistication with a tough, industrial edge, will be the perfect running mate for Emerson designer's Jackie Fraser-Swann's beautifully feminine - with a helping of no-nonsenseness -  frocks and separates.
Emerson's SS12 Runway
Monday (if I'm still standing) will see me head to the office in midtown to work on a project that will be launching online in October - Stay tuned! Then off to the Launch by Susan Young presentation at the Empire Hotel
and then back downtown for Rolando Santana, and extremely talented Mexican maker of dresses and dreams.

Then, bebes, back to Boston for me!
